Meet Our Instructors
Christina Swink
Christina Swink graduated from Bikram Yoga College of India's Teacher Training in November of 2005.

Born in Ft. Worth, Texas, Christina grew up in Keller, Texas, and moved to Dallas in 2003. Running and outdoor activities were her main source of exercise when a friend suggested Bikram yoga as the weather got colder. The true testament to Bikram Yoga came in December 2005, after a New Year's ski trip to Colorado where she tore both her ACL and MCL in her right knee. Scheduled for surgery, she had the good fortune of actually talking to Bikram, who encouraged her surgery was not necessary to make a full recovery. The day before her scheduled surgery, in class, she realized how strong, both mentally and physically, she had become since her injury and decided not to have the surgery then and there!

From that point forward, she committed herself to her practice and completed a 60 day challenge, quit her job, and traveled to Los Angeles for teacher training. Not only has this adventure healed her knee, it has shown her how strong she is, and the value of life, family, and friends. Opening herself to the many possibilities, Bikram Yoga has been instrumental in allowing her to connect with others who have also experienced injuries, and who, like her, have strived to live life authentically.

Christina is excited about creating the possibility of owning her own Bikram Yoga studio. In addition, she is a student at the California College of Ayurveda studying to become a certified Ayurvedic Practitioner. She also loves attending musical concerts, reading, traveling, planning and managing events, and hanging out with family, friends, and her Weimeriener, Ada!
Kathryn Body
Kathryn Body graduated from Bikram Yoga College of India's Teacher training in June, 2006. She had decided it was time to give back and share all the benefits she has received by practicing Bikram yoga.

Kathryn grew up in Burbank, California. She moved to Northern California in 1992. A tomboy at heart, she was always very physically active, involved in softball, volleyball, aerobics, racquetball, and water skiing. In 1987 she was in a car accident which she was told she was lucky to have survived. In addition to facial injuries, she broke her right knee in half, losing the cartilage. She was told she would never participate in any of her prior physical activities again. She was also told that she would not even be able to run and would have to deal with arthritis at an early age. Four months later, against doctor's orders, she was waterskiing. A year later, they removed the hardware from her knee and she recovered quickly.

In 1995 she discovered Bikram yoga at a studio in San Carlos, CA. She was hooked. Not only has Bikram yoga reshaped her body. The key benefit is the connection to your breath.

Practicing yoga is the only place she has ever been able to still her mind and focus on her breathing. It helps keep her knee arthritis free and allows her to keep up with her very active children.

"It is the best mental and physical workout I know. Learning to focus on my breathing has
had a tremendous effect on my life. It has helped me through both births of my children as well as personal crisis."

Kathryn lives in Lincoln, CA with her husband Dave and her children, Spencer and Claire. In addition to teaching and practicing Bikram yoga, she is a devoted wife, and mother. She is a textile designer, and teaches both art and yoga to kids.
Celeste Martinez
Celeste Martinez graduated from Bikram Yoga College of India's teacher training in June of 2006. She loves teaching and has been teaching in Elk Grove full time.

Born in Fresno, California, Celeste grew up in Sacramento. Celeste has always enjoyed being active. In high school she was on the cross county team for three years and ran cross county during her first year of college. She discovered Bikram Yoga through the mail! She saw an ad and thought, " how hard could that be?" After taking her first class she was hooked! It was the best form of exercise she had done. All she could remember was I have to do this again. Bikram yoga became a part of her everyday life.

From that point forward, she committed herself to her practice and what it revealed was the desire to become a teacher. She soon quit her job and traveled to Los Angeles for teaching training. The next nine weeks changed her life. Bikram yoga has changed her life for the better; it has changed her body as well as her mind. Bikram yoga has helped her overcome many hardships in her life. "I can't imagine where I would be without Bikram yoga, for that I am grateful."

Celeste enjoys practing Bikram yoga everyday, she also enjoys taking walks with her boyfriend along the river, reading US Weekly, shopping, and hanging out with friends and her family.
Elizabeth Kent
Elizabeth Kent graduated from Bikram Yoga College of India's Teacher Training in June 2006, and teaches full time in the Sacramento area.

Elizabeth discovered Bikram Yoga by accident in mid-2003 while living in Orange County, CA. She was feeling stressed from her job as an insurance adjuster and was thinking of trying a yoga class. She overheard a stranger talking about Bikram Yoga, so Elizabeth asked a few questions and decided to check it out. After her first class in Costa Mesa, she knew this was the yoga for her.

"I struggled so hard during my first few classes, I realized that my mind was focused on nothing else during class except staying alive! It was the first time I had ever experienced a quiet mind, and I'd leave class feeling so peaceful and calm, totally renewed and at ease."

Elizabeth feels Bikram yoga put her life in fast-forward. Within the next few months she quit her job and moved to Osaka, Japan. She brought with her a Bikram yoga class on cassette and practiced yoga in her tiny apartment for over a year, before she finally found a "hot yoga" studio where she could practice hatha yoga, though not Bikram's series. It was then she decided that when she returned to the U.S., she would go to Bikram's teacher training and share with others the many benefits of Bikram yoga.

Before her return to the U.S. in December 2005, Elizabeth traveled to India and studied yoga while living on an ashram for five weeks. There she earned the title Yoga Siromani (teacher of yoga) and was certified to teach, but she only saw that as preparation for Bikram's training, which she attended the following spring.

"I feel like I have the best job in the world. At every class I see students leave with a smile on their face! I'm constantly inspired by so many students' hard work, dedication and motivation, and I literally have witnessed their bodies, health and lives transform."

Elizabeth lives in downtown Sacramento. Apart from yoga, Elizabeth loves to spend time reading and traveling.
Carrie Bain
Hi, I'm Mama Bain
Kelly Schrader
Kelly began practicing yoga at Bikram Yoga Elk Grove in 2002 due to the stress within her life and was instantly hooked. Soon after she began you could find her at the studio seven days a week.

Not only was the stress level significantly reduced, but her waist line was as well. She has lost several inches and has healed several injuries through her practice. Years of practicing soccer and running had taken a toll on her joints.

Within six months Carrie encouraged her to enroll with Bikram's Yoga College of India and she has been teaching ever since. Through teaching she worked her way across the country teaching in both New York City and Boston.

While on the East Coast she pursued a career in advertising and organizational development. With one foot in the corporate world and another in the holistic healing world she felt pulled and was not able to focus on what mattered to her most. In 2005 she enrolled with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and became a certified Holistic Health Counselor. In the Summer of 2006 she left the East Coast and the corporate world behind her. She launched her own Holistic Health Counseling Practice--EVOLVE, and hasn't looked back.

Though Kelly is a native of Elk Grove and has a lot of ties to both the town and the yoga community here, she now calls Truckee her home. She is a full-time teacher at Bikram Yoga Sierras, while also running her practice and has found that the two compliment each other more than she had ever anticipated. However, no matter how far she goes, she will always feel a connection to where she began her yoga journey, Bikram Yoga Elk Grove. Kelly feels blessed to be able to share the yoga with her friends and yoga family in Elk Grove and to give back to her mentor teacher and friend, Carrie Bain. For her, the yoga room continues to be the place where she can focus on what matters most. The yoga room is her sanctuary.
